Ten Best quotes by Robin Sharma

Piplantri The villagers who plant 111 trees every time a girl child is born

The villagers of Piplantri plant 111 trees every time a girl child is born and the community ensures these trees survive, attaining fruition as the girls grow up. Over the years, people here have managed to plant over a quarter million trees on the village's grazing commons - including NeemSheeshamMangoAmla among others.
To ensure financial security, after the birth of a girl child, the villagers contribute Rs 21,000 collectively and take Rs 10,000 from the parents and puts it in a fixed deposit, which can be broken when she turns 20. To make sure that girl child receives proper education, the villagers make the parents sign an affidavit which also restricts them from marrying her off, before she attains the legal age for marriage.
Shyam Sundar Paliwal, the former sarpanch (Village head) started this initiative in the memory of his daughter Kiran, who died a few years ago.[2]
The initiative begun in 2006 has turned Piplantri village into an oasis. The birth of girl child is now welcomed and the village is covered with Neem, Mango, Amla and Sheesham trees leading to a higher water level.[3]

The initiative has also helped the town’s economy. To keep termites away from the trees, many of which bear fruit, the village has planted more than 2.5 million Aloe vera plants around them. Gradually, the villagers realized that Aloe vera could be processed and marketed in a variety of ways. So the community now produces and markets aloe-based products like juice and gel, among other things

A lion a tiger? Its a Liger.

Ligers are the world’s biggest cats, larger than their parents, with the strength of a lion and speed of a tiger combined.
An average male liger stands almost 12ft tall on its hind legs and weighs up to half a ton, twice the weight of a wild lion or tiger.

How did the liger appear?

If the father is a lion and the mother a tiger, the offspring are known as ligers and the pairing results in gigantism.
A tigon example
Strangely, if the pairing is reversed and the mother is a lion, the offspring – known as a tigon – will be small, weighing less than 150 kg.
Ligers (picture left) and tigons (picture right) are not thought to appear in the wild, as the behavior and habitats of lions and tigers make interbreeding unlikely.
In the Thirties in South Africa, the two species were put in the same cage and, to the keepers surprise, they didn’t fight. In fact, they made love, and the liger was born.
A liger example
So popular did they become that zoos in Europe clamored for specimens and so stray dogs on that Continent also came to

be frightened away by massive mounds of manure.
Ligers look like both their parents only bigger. Their teeth are whoppers: two inches long.
They may resemble either parent, and range from white to gold to brown, with or without spots and stripes. A male liger may have a mane, but it is usually much smaller than his father’s.
As hybrids, ligers have low fertility rates, but some females have produced an offspring by mating with full lions or tigers. Liger males are totally unfertile though.
On a typical day, a liger will devour 9kg of meat, usually beef or chicken, and is capable of eating 45kg at a single sitting. When he is fully grown he is expected to reach 3.5m, and more than 300kg.

The U.S. Navy has 75 trained dolphins to detect enemy swimmers and underwater mines.

A military dolphin is a dolphin trained for military uses. The United States and Soviet militaries have trained and employed oceanic dolphins for several reasons. Such military dolphins have been trained to rescue lost naval swimmers or to locate underwater mines.
The U.S. Navy trains dolphins and sea lions under the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program, which is based in San Diego, California. They get some of their dolphins from the Gulf of Mexico. Military dolphins were used by the U.S. Navy during the First and Second Gulf Wars. About 75 dolphins are in the program.
The United States Navy implemented a program in 1960 to work with dolphins and sea lions in order to help with defense, mine detection, and design of new submarines and new underwater weapons. The Navy did many tests with several marine mammals to determine which would be best for the jobs they needed done. "More than 19 species were tested, including some sharks and birds." Eventually, the bottlenose dolphin and California sea lion were shown to be the best at what the Navy needed them for. The bottlenose dolphins' asset was their highly evolved biosonar, helping to find underwater mines, and the sea lions' asset was their impeccable underwater vision, which can help to detect enemy swimmers. In fiscal year 2007, the United States Navy spent $14 million on research on marine mammals as weapons and marine mammal training programs in object recovery and mine detection and have 75 trained dolphins.[8] Dolphins have contributed to saving more lives in open water than specially trained life savers[citation needed].
The dolphins and sea lions are trained by five teams of the Navy's Marine Mammal fleet members. One team specializes in swimmer detection, three teams in mine location, and another team in object recoveries. The quick-response goal of this fleet is to mobilize a team and be on site within 72 hours. Dolphins are trained much as police dogs and hunting dogs are. They are given rewards such as fish on correct completion of a task. Dolphins are trained to detect underwater mines and enemy swimmers and then report back to their handlers.[4]

Retired US Admiral Tim Keating claimed that military dolphins could be used to detect mines in the Strait of Hormuz, after Iran threatened to close the waterway in January 2012.[10]
